Hello, and welcome to the very first book review for Just Words. I’m very excited to do book reviews, and I can’t think of a better book to start than the “Black Viking,” The Trials Of King Dane. How exactly did I come across this book? Well, I’ve always been intrigued and enamored by the sword and sorcery genre, even at the early age of four years old, going to the comic book store and picking out Conan The Barbarian and Kull The Conqueror comics.
While I’m a huge fan of both of Robert E. Howard’s prized, brain children, I’ve always been disappointed by the lack of Black heroes in the fantasy, and sword and sorcery genre. And that’s when I came across SilverWing’s “Black Viking – The Trials Of King Dane.”

As it turns out, I came across SilverWing’s website, Out Of The Ashes Publications, her publishing company behind not only just the Black Viking, but other blockbuster novels. If you want to take a quick peak at Out Of The Ashes Publications, you can click here.

Background On The Black Viking
The Black Viking is completely set in a fictional time before any recorded history. As I mentioned before what attracted me to, King Dane, is that he is to my knowledge(Please correct me if I’m wrong) the first Black male hero in the world of fantasy and Sword And Sorcery. King Dane, is known as The Great One, the one decreed by the Supreme Gods to save humanity from the timeless feud between his father Gods, Odin and Amon, the God of the night and the father to the Kush(Modern day Sudan).
In fact, upon reading about King Dane, you will learn that there is a pantheon of Gods, above the Earth Gods, Odin and Amon who are actually brothers. While I’m not in the business of spoilers, (You’ll have to read the book for all the amazing details!), I will say this, a massive dispute happened between Odin and Amon, and ever since then, their earth people, The Vikings, fathered by Odin, and the Kush, fathered by Amon, have been mindlessly and intensely at war, with some not even remembering why they are even at war. The war was so bloody between man and the Gods versus Gods, that it took the Supreme Gods to halt the wonton amount of destruction between Odin and Amon, and thus setup the trials of all trials…The Trials Of King Dane The Black Viking. Below is an introduction.

A Bit About The Characters
King Dane – “The Black Viking,” is the main character as well as the hero of the book. He is a young king, the product of King Arn, a fierce Viking King, and Kasaqa, a Celestial Goddess who took the form of a powerful Kush priestess to birth The Great One.
Kasaqa – She is the mother of the Great One, King Dane. Kasaqa is a Celestial Goddess who is higher in stature than the Earth Gods, Odin and Amon.
King Arn – The Greatest of Viking Kings and the supreme ruler of the Normanzia lands (Viking Lands).
Mathias – A powerful lord and King Arn’s right hand man. In a lot of ways, he is second father to King Dane.
Ragnulf – The second prince and the younger brother to King Dane. He is the offspring of King Arn and Gudrid.
Gudrid – The mother to Ragnulf among other things…. (Remember! No spoilers).
Lady Dora – The young, beautiful bride to King Dane – The Black Viking. She loves him with all her heart…but could she be harboring dark secrets that might come back to harm or her King Dane?
